In this section, we highlight the latest information available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention related to Ebola preparedness, as well as opportunities to educate nursing students and clinicians via national webinars and archived events. As an early adopter of the use of technology in education, the faculty at the USA College of Nursing are experts in delivering high quality online nursing degree programs for the working nurse.

Complete your courses online and if you are like most students you will be able to complete clinical requirements in your home communities while working with a preceptor and your faculty.

With faculty and staff support, you don't have to be a "techie" to be successful in the online degree programs offered by USA. And, you can access the library, bookstore, and many other student resources all online.

bullet Dr. Alethea Hill and Dr. Bridget Moore have been busy! Recently, they were selected for the ASNA Leadership Academy where the motto is "Every Nurse is a Leader". Both identified a project and submitted a resolution to the ASNA for approval to start a statewide initiative in collaboration with community partners..

Dr. Hill was also selected for the Mathematical Sciences in Obesity training at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, May 12-16th. The training will introduce energy balance models for clinical interventions, statistical methods for obesity research, genomics, and complex systems approaches to obesity etiology and intervention. The training is funded by the National Institutes of Health & Office of Energetics. Dr. Hill was also selected to receive a travel award to defray all cost related to the training.bullet

bullet Faculty member Susan Williams has been selected to attend the Making Lifelong Connections 2014 meeting in Denver, Colorado, May 7, 8 and 9, 2014 as a Maternal Child Health trainee through the University of Alabama at Birmingham. This meeting is a collaboration of many trainees across the United States through a Maternal Child Health Bureau grant. It allows the trainees to make connections with people across the U.S. that have similar interests in Child and Adolescent Health. I was also awarded a 400.00 travel grant from the University of Alabama at Birmingham Graduate Student Association for this meeting.bullet
bullet Dr. James Harris, Community Mental Health Professor was inducted in the Alabama Hall of Fame by the Board of Visitors of the Capstone College of Nursing at the University of Alabama October 10, 2013. Individually and collectively the five inductees have greatly influenced the profession of nursing and health care in the state of Alabama and the nation. Honoring the inductees is to honor the most noble of professions---Nursing.bullet
bullet Carolyn Dolan, RN, JD, MSN, FNP-BC, PNP-BC was elected to the board of directors of the governing body of The American Association of Nurse Attorneys (TAANA) at the annual symposium in Savannah, Georgia. Click here for more information.bullet

bullet Dr. Leigh Minchew, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and WHNP Specialty Track Coordinator for MSN and DNP Programs was recently elected as Vice Chair of the Alabama Office of Women’s Health Steering Committee. Dr. Minchew has served on the Steering Committee for the past four years and has served as Program Committee Chair for three annual Women’s Health Update conferences.
