HBCU Adult Learners Initiative Funded by the Lumina Foundation Storyboard to Capacity-Building

The Lumina Foundation HBCU Adult Learners Initiative (ALI) five HBCUs in North Carolina are:

  • Elizabeth City State University (ECSU), Elizabeth City, North Carolina
  • Fayetteville State University (FSU), Fayetteville, North Carolina
  • Johnson C Smith University (JCSU), Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Shaw University (SU), Raleigh, North Carolina
  • Winston-Salem State University (WSSU), Winston-Salem, North Carolina

The Storyboard begins in Year 1 with the kick-off of the virtual convening by Dr. Jasmine Haywood, Strategy Director for Student Success, Lumina Foundation, followed by the Technical Assistance (TA) Team, Kathy Thompson, Lisa Dunning, and Visha Patel, diving into the work with the five HBCUs to identify barriers to the adult students integrating into the campus community.  The discussions led to various topics that became the virtual process maps sessions and community of practice webinars focused on data infrastructure, digital courseware, and adult advising.
