The purpose of the University Library's art galleries is to establish the library as a cultural institution and a place that offers more than just books, journals, and other resources to the university and Mobile communities. By featuring artwork, the library offers far more than books about art, artists, and photography. We offer visitors the opportunity to see a wide variety of art in one facility by featuring watercolors, acrylics, photgraphy, oils, sumi-e, and multimedia. The display cases on the third floor display a wide range of works, including jewelry, artifacts, scrapbooks, and manuscript materials. These exhibits change on a regular basis.
The library also offers artists an opportunity to exhibit their works at little or no cost to a wide audience, including all students, staff, and faculty of the University of South Alabama. The shows are announced to the university community,
Mobile Arts Council, and a number of other agencies for their calendars of events at no cost to the artist. While the library does not sell the works of the artists, they may include the price of each work and contact information.
