| There are a number of ways that you can help the Center for Real Estate Studies. |

Center Sponsor:
This is a special category designed for users of the data, participants in the professional education programs, and employers of USA graduates who want to contribute to the effort to improve the professionalism of the Real Estate business.
A sponsorship contribution is $900, annually. The bulk of the funds will be used to employ students in the Center. Their assignment will be to gather data and assist in the production of real estate market reports on the Coastal market. |

• Mailing prior to posting on this website
• An invitation to become a member of the Real Estate Advisory Board. This group meets twice annually and offers recommendations on policy issues. |

Academic Scholarships:
Students are supported with financial rewards for academic performance. Awards are requested in $1,000 multiples.

Real Estate Center Scholarships:

Endowed Scholarship, Professorship, or Center:
An endowment supports the annual operating budget and special projects of the center. Naming opportunities exist. Scholarships are awarded in the Spring of each academic year. |

The Larson Edge Real Estate Scholarship was awarded for the first time at the annual Honors Day sponsored by the Mitchell College of Business. The $1,000 award recognizes the 50 years of service Mr. Edge gave to the community. He was employed by Volkert Engineering and established their right-of-way department. He is credited with the creation and implementation of procedures for right-of-way acquisitions and appraisals which have become industry norms. Earlier in his career, he was a professional appraiser who served his many clients throughout the Southeastern United States.
The recipient was Megan Hoffman, a senior at USA, Mitchell College of Business, majoring in Marketing with the concentration in Real Estate. The donor was Mr. Edmond Eslava, a long time real estate appraiser in Coastal Alabama.
The Chair of the Real Estate Scholarship was Dr. Donald Epley, Director of the Center for Real Estate Studies. “We are humbled by the donation and honored to recognize Mr. Edge. The award will assist in the education of our future professionals in the local Real Estate business.”

The Bill Moss Scholarship is in honor of a long-time instructor and past president of the Alabama Chapter of CCIM. Since he taught the CI-Intro course numerous times at Gulf Shores and has instructed students from the southern areas of the state, it is expected that his name will be recognized in and around Mobile.
The recipient of the $1,000 scholarship was Nicholas A. Lawkis, a senior at USA, Mitchell College of Business majoring in Marketing with the concentration of Real Estate. The donor was the Alabama Chapter of CCIM; Mr. Steve Coleman presented the award. |

Prestigious Commercial Association Awards Scholarship
University Students are Recipients |

The Louisiana/Mississippi/Alabama/Northwest Florida chapter of the Society of Industrial and Office REALTORS® and the Society SIOR Foundation have awarded Deepa Rajan at the University of South Alabama a $2,000 scholarship in recognition of her academic excellence at the University. Deepa has already received a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and is enrolled in the University attending more real estate courses.
Each year with the assistance of matching funds from the SIOR Foundation and through the generosity of the Turner Heggeman Memorial Scholarship Fund, the LA/MS/AL/Northwest FL Chapter grants scholarships to students to recognize and reward outstanding academic performance in business and real estate courses and to expose recipients to career opportunities and internship programs available within the Chapters real estate community.
The LA/MS/AL/NW FL Chapter is one of 43 chapters of the prestigious international association, the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors. Commercial real estate professionals must meet rigorous requirements to earn the SIOR designation. SIOR, based in Washington, D.C. has more than 3,100 members in 480 cities in 20 countries and was founded in 1941. SIOR’s are top producers who are required to complete an educational recertification program every three years, assuring those who need the services of a commercial real estate agent that the SIOR has achieved continued excellence.
The SIOR Foundation’s mission is to promote and support initiatives that expand, educate, and enrich the commercial real estate community. Established in 1962 to publish the industry’s first graduate-level textbook on industrial real estate, the SIOR Foundation has maintained its dedication to expanding the understanding of the commercial real estate industry. The Foundation has a matching scholarship program available to the SIOR Chapters.
The Turner Heggeman Scholarship was created in 1996 and renamed in 2000 by our local chapter in memory of two members, Buzz Heggeman of Mobile, AL and James E. Turner of Hattiesburg, MS. Both of these gentlemen were esteemed, long term members of our SIOR chapter and experts in the field of in industrial real estate throughout the Alabama and Mississippi gulf coast areas. Both men were contributing members of our chapter for over 25 years when they passed away.
The Society’s Louisiana/Mississippi/Alabama/Northwest Florida chapter and the SIOR Education Foundation will recognize each student at their respective honors day ceremonies.
