Five Mitchell College of Business students recently represented the University of South Alabama at the Harold E. Eisenberg Foundation Real Estate Challenge in Chicago.

Riley Bailey, Will Conken, Caiya Mitchell, Mikey Munoz, and Regan Schrekenberg competed against universities from across the country in the annual case competition. This year’s challenge required teams to create a comprehensive investment proposal for “The 78,” a hypothetical large-scale, mixed-use development anchored by a future professional soccer stadium.

The Mitchell College team proposed nearly 2 million gross square feet of development. The plan featured an 800-room hotel, riverfront apartments, retail space and a public green space. During the presentation, a panel of industry experts questioned the team on financials and development logistics.
This was the first year South Alabama’s emerging real estate program competed on the national stage. In addition to the competition, students networked with peers from other institutions, including a dinner with students and faculty from Tulane University.

“There is nothing more fulfilling than watching your students stepping out boldly in their presentation as well as making lasting connections with their peers,” said Dr. Grayson Glaze, director of the real estate program. Glaze also credited the program’s Founders Circle for providing the financial support necessary for the trip.
