The College of Nursing has an exciting opportunity for Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner students! The Department of Health and Human Services has funded a $1.1 million proposal submitted by Dr. Julie Sanford for a post-baccalaureate Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Doctorate of Nursing Practice program. This means that selected students now enrolled in the AACNP program may transition to the DNP program. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing has mandated a 2015 date for full implementation of the DNP as the entry level for advanced practice. We now have the opportunity to begin this educational opportunity for post-baccalaureate students for August admission. We are accepting at least 12 students in to this program. The complete curriculum calls for 9 semesters of full-time study. If you have already completed some of the Master's courses, then your load would be lighter and we would develop individual programs of study for you. We are accepting applications immediately and will be notifying students of admission decisions by the end of July.

The requirements for acceptance include:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and hold an unencumbered registered nurse license.

Admission decisions will be based on an evaluation of the following required information:

• Transcripts of all previous college studies
• Portfolio which evidences potential for scholarly work including a curriculum vitae/resume; sample evidence of leadership and scholarship; and written statement of career goals
• Structured interview with graduate nursing faculty members.

Curriculum

• Full time course schedule

• Part-time course schedule

• Post-masters course schedule

Note: Your ability to progress in the curriculum is dependent upon you following the schedule. For example, some courses are only taught once each year and many others have pre-requisites. If you are unable to enroll as projected, contact the graduate office for a revised schedule (251) 434-3425.

Advising

Contact Dr. Julie Sanford at jsanford@usouthal.edu or 251-434-3430 for specific questions regarding course planning, etc. Prior to contacting Dr. Sanford, please review the course schedules at the links listed above. There is no requirement for students to “be advised” prior to registration. Registration is accomplished online. Students do need to be aware that they MUST register with E-College as well as with the University in order to have access to courses.
