University News Portal

Tips & Best Practices

Web Services team has created a standalone news portal for the dissemination of university news. This portal follows the progression and advancement of the University, and will be completely maintained and controlled by the Department of Public Relations. The following tips are best practices for inputting news stories into the content management system (CMS).

  1. Always try to start the process by first uploading images -- because adding images is the most time consuming part of this process try to have the images for the story available before you input the actual story. If there are no images available, please use one of the generic options provided for you. More information on adding images can be found below in the category labeled "Images Overview" in the navigation to the left.

  2. If you have materials that will need to be added to a story before the story is published and the story has been created  in the CMS, you can modify and add those elements via the story's "Page Properties."  If the story has been published and the images and/or content materials need to be modified, depending on those modifications you may need to edit the individual story's RSS element. ( see "RSS Overview" for more information)

  3. The main News Release feed operates "last in -- first out".  Meaning, the last story implemented will appear first in the location it was added.
