Editing Page Properties Vs. RSS

Page properties can be used to control preconfigured aspects of a page, such as supplying meta tag information, story title text, date information, selecting keywords, and much more.  There are two places that the page properties are modified, however when a story is being created--- the configuration properties used to create the news story article also add in the configuration of the RSS item associated with the News story article.

With this in mind,  these configuration page properties are important because they serve as the building blocks to both the news article as well as the RSS feed item associated with that article. 

There will be times that these configuration properties need to be modified.  It is important to understand what the page properties control versus what the RSS feed item controls.  

Page Properties versus RSS feed Items

Page properties in the OU systems pertain to the information contained within the story. Though the configuration page properties also aide in the creation of the RSS item, think of page properties as the building blocks of each story. If you want to control how the actual story is presented modify the Page Properties.  RSS Items control the location and presentation of an image within the various feeds on the homepage, Main News page, and story feeds on the article pages.

The below diagram is a breakdown of the page properties and how the control the story information as well as the RSS feed item information.  The fields that control the page properties  only need to be modified in the page properties.  The fields that control RSS properties need to be manipulated with the RSS (click here for info on how to manipulate RSS items).  The fields that control both the page properties and the RSS need to be modified in both the page properties as well as the RSS item dialog box. 

Important Tips 

Page properties and RSS are important in the overall creation and placement of the news story.  It is important to think of Page Properties as away to control story content and RSS as a way to control story placement and feed presentation.  These elements give you, the author, control over how and where news gets presented to the university.
