Posted on January 27, 2023 by Clive Woods

Senior Cade Marty, studying Civil Engineering at the University of South Alabama, has been awarded
the prestigious Acott/Wilson Asphalt Industry Scholarship by the National Asphalt
Pavement Association (NAPA). This is the first time a student from the University
of South Alabama has received this award. Cade has also been conducting asphalt research
under the direction of Dr. Shenghua Wu of the USA Department of Civil, Coastal, and
Environmental Engineering, and recently presented the results of their work at the
102nd Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting in Washington DC. Their work will
also be published as a peer-reviewed journal paper in the Transportation Research
Record.
The Acott/Wilson Asphalt Industry Scholarship was established in 2019 with contributions from Bob & Ellen Thompson to honor Michael Acott and the Wilson Family’s many accomplishments in the Asphalt Industry. The Transportation Research Record is one of the most prestigious journals in the transportation field, with typically less than 15% of submissions accepted for publication. Cade Marty is also the President of the Society of Sustainable Engineering chapter at the University of South Alabama. His accomplishments were supported by the Alabama Asphalt Pavement Association and H.O. Weaver Co. of Mobile, AL. On graduation, Cade will move to Birmingham, Alabama, to work in Civil Engineering.
