Percussion Duo Novus Percutere at Laidlaw September 26
Posted on September 23, 2014 by Keith Bohnet
Newly formed percussion duo Novus Percutere, comprised of professors Dr. Justin Alexander (Virginia Commonwealth University) and Dr. Luis Rivera (USA), will be in concert at the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center on Friday, September 26 at 7:30 p.m. Music as Process is the underlying theme of NP's musical selections, featuring works that use rhythm, mathematical formulas, and structural cohesion as the driving forces of musical composition. The performance will conclude with the World Premiere of a new duet for vibraphone and drum set, written specifically for NP by Texas composer Ivan Trevino entitled Hold Fast. The new commission was funded by over 20 percussionists around the country and a grant from USA's College of Arts and Sciences. The remainder of the program will include percussion works by Steve Reich, Steve Gisby, and Wayne Siegel, as well as featured members of the USA Percussion Ensemble.
Tickets for this Department of Music event will be sold at the door only. Admission is $8 general and $5 for USA faculty & staff, USA students, youths under 18 and all senior citizens (cash or check only). Persons needing more information about this event or in need of special accommodation may call (251) 460-7116 or (251) 460-6136.
