USA Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band Fall Concert Sep 30 at Laidlaw

On Tuesday, September 30 at 7:30 p.m., the University of South Alabama Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band will open the 2014 student ensemble performance season with a combined concert of new and classic wind band works on the Recital Hall stage of the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center.

The Symphony Band, under the baton of Associate Director of Bands, Dr. Michael Phillips, will open the concert with American Fanfare by James Stephenson followed by Medium Funk Prelude by Paul Richards, Rhosymedre by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Elliot Del Borgo.   Following a brief intermission, the USA Wind Ensemble and their conductor, Dr. William Petersen, will take the stage beginning with Frank Ticheli's Nitro, followed by Vaughan Williams Toccata Marziale, and Jonathan Newman's Moon by Night. The concert will conclude with the incomparable finale of Kalinnikov's Symphony No. 1, transcribed for wind band by Glenn Cliffe Bainum.

Tickets for this Musical Arts Series event will be sold at the door only. Admission is $8 general and $5 for USA faculty & staff, USA students, youths under 18 and all senior citizens (cash or check only).
