Woodwind Ensembles Spring Concert

The University of South Alabama Department of Music will present the USA Woodwind Ensembles Spring Concert, directed by Dr. Rebecca Mindock, on Monday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. This semester's concert will present music for Saxophone Quartet, Woodwind Quintet, and Clarinet Choir, and will include everything from Handel and Mozart to Piazzolla and Coltrane.

The USA Clarinet Choir will present a diverse set of works that includes an arrangement of several movements from Fauré's "Dolly Suite." The USA Saxophone Quartet will present works both new and old; their program includes arrangements of a Handel aria, Piazzolla's "Libertango," and two jazz charts, including a quartet setting of John Coltrane's "Blue Trane." The USA Woodwind Quintet will perform a colorfully modern work by Nino Rota, and four of the five Woodwind Quintet members will then be joined by graduate piano student Stephen Smith to perform one of Mozart's most beloved chamber works, the Quintet for Piano and Winds, K. 452.
