About the performers

Oboe Duo Agosto was created in 2009 by Ling-Fei Kang, oboe and Charles Huang, oboe and English horn. Advocates of their instrument, they promote its sound and popularity through original and arranged pieces, and newly commissioned works. Audiences have enjoyed their exotic sound combination in music festivals, venues and universities across the United States, in Canada, Brazil, and Asia.

The duo has performed at the International Double Reed and the Asian Double Reed Society Conferences and as the ensemble in residence at the Hartford Women Composers Festival. Their residency at The Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada, featured several commissioned pieces alongside new collaborations with other fellow artists, including the outdoor sound installation for the Convergence Summit on Art and Technology. The most recent project has them exploring a whole new creative dimension with Andrea Clearfield’s Daughter of the Sea, with music and choreography all performed by the duo. This evocative work will be performed on their recital here at USA.

Dr. Charles Huang is currently serving as Artist Teacher of Oboe at The Hartt School, and has performed in chamber music and solo recitals in the United States and Canada, as well as Mexico, Brazil, Germany, Thailand and throughout Taiwan. He has concertized with members of the Miami String Quartet, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and with soloists Humbert Lucarelli, Henrique Pinto, and Angel Romero. He has also been on the faculty of the Lucarelli Oboe Masterclass presented by Music Mountain, and held the positions of Coordinator for Chamber Music at The Hartt School and Professor of Oboe at the Festival Eleazar de Carvalho in Fortaleza, Brazil. His principal teachers include Humbert Lucarelli and Nancy Ambrose King.

Oboist Ling-Fei Kang has performed as a chamber musician and soloist in North America, South America and Asia. From 2010 to 2013, she served as Professor of Oboe at the Festival Eleazar de Carvalho in Fortaleza, Brazil, where she taught oboe and reed making to local students, and concertized with festival faculty. She is a grant-recipient of Le Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Taiwanese National Culture and Arts Foundation. Ms. Kang graduated with the Prix avec grande distinction from the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and also earned an Artist Diploma from The Hartt School. Her principal teachers include Humbert Lucarelli and Bernard Jean.
