Opening the 2023-2024 USA Musical Arts Concert Series, flutist Dr. Andra Bohnet will present a faculty recital on Tuesday, September 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. Collaborating with Dr. Bohnet will be USA faculty pianist Dr. Robert Holm.

With the exception of the Sonata by Robert Muczynski, a chestnut of the flute repertoire, all of the works on the program will be by female composers. Three are Alabama premieres – Ruth Gipps Cool Running Water, op. 77  for bass flute and piano (1991) and two very recent works, Souvenirs de fleurs de Pervenche by Yuko Uébayashi (2023) for flute and piano, and Oxygen by Julia Wolfe (2022) for twelve flutes. The twelve flutists, some of whom will be doubling piccolo or alto flute, will include Mobile Symphony colleagues, USA alumni, USA current students, and other prominent flutists in the region.

Tickets for this Musical Arts Series event will be sold at the door only. Admission is $8 general and $5 for USA faculty & staff, USA students, youths under 18 and all senior citizens (card or cash accepted). Musical Arts Series season passes will of course be honored for admission to this event. Persons needing more information about this event or in need of special accommodation may call 251-460-7116 or 251-460-6136.
