James Helton, Piano Camp Faculty Recital June 24 at 3:00

USA Piano Camp Faculty Dr. James Helton

Dr. James Helton will perform in a USA Piano Camp Faculty Recital on Wednesday, June 24 at 3:00 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. Helton will perform the Schumann Variations and the opus 118 Piano Pieces by Johannes Brahms. Additionally, he will play Rachmaninoff's Corelli Variations and works by Mel Bonis and York Bowen.

Admission to this Department of Music concert is free and open to the public. Persons needing more information about this event or in need of special accommodation may call 251-460-7116 or 251-460-6136.

This concert is not scheduled to appear on the USA Department of Music Live Stream.

About the performer

James Helton maintains an active schedule as asoloist and collaborator, having performed throughout most of the United Statesand in Latin America, the Czech Republic, Spain, and Thailand. He has had the pleasure of working with Pulitzer Prize winning composers George Crumb, William Bolcom, Lucas Foss and Joseph Schwantner in concerts broadcast over public radio and television. For New World Records, Helton appeared with the BlairWoodwind Quintet on works by composer Michael Kurek (CD 80497-2), a disc that achieved a place on the short list of Grammy nominations for its category in1996. The China Record Company, Ltd, AUR, Layerle Publications, North PacificRecords, and Navona Records also feature the pianist on their discs. Dr. Helton is Professor of Music Performance and Coordinator of the Keyboard Area at Ball State University, where he has taught since 2000. His former students are successful performers and teachers, maintaining successful private studios and holding professional posts in this country and abroad. On a lighter note, Helton may be heard on American Public Media’s Performance Today “Piano Puzzler” with Fred Child and Bruce Adolphe.
