LevelUP Fellows Present Projects at CoTL

The 2024–2025 LevelUP Fellows participated in the annual Conference on Teaching and Learning (CoTL) at the University of South Alabama, where the Fellows presented the outcomes of their year-long, high-impact projects aimed at enhancing student success and career readiness.

As part of the University’s LevelUP QEP, the LevelUP Fellows engaged in collaborative, experiential learning initiatives focused on embedding metacognitive reflection and NACE Career Readiness Competencies into courses, programs, and student support services. The presentations at CoTL showcased the impact of these projects across disciplines, highlighting the Fellows’ commitment to preparing students for life after graduation.

Two conference sessions were dedicated to the LevelUP Fellows:

“Leveling Up Beyond the Classroom: Connecting Coursework and Careers”.

In this interactive session, LevelUP Faculty-Student Fellows showcased how they have embedded career readiness into academic coursework and student support programs as part of the LevelUP QEP. Fellows shared high-impact practices that span disciplines—from integrating career-aligned skill development in the sciences and humanities to fostering transferable skills in advising and support services. Through classroom assignments, reflective writing, peer collaboration, and real-world projects, the Fellows emphasized how intentional design can help students articulate the value of their education in ways that resonate with employers and graduate programs.

“Designing Glass Labyrinths: Transparent Teaching and Professional Readiness from Curriculum to Classroom”.

This thought-provoking session explored how transparency in teaching and curriculum design can illuminate students’ educational journeys and promote professional readiness. Drawing on the metaphor of a "glass labyrinth," the session emphasized the importance of helping students see the structure, purpose, and outcomes of their educational paths—making the implicit explicit. Fellows highlighted how intentional course and curriculum design, along with transparent teaching practices, can help students navigate complex learning environments with greater confidence and clarity.

The CoTL Presentations and Closing Celebration served as the culminating event of the Fellowship, offering Fellows the opportunity to reflect on their impact and celebrate their successes with colleagues. Each Fellow was formally recognized during the Closing Celebration for their contributions to the LevelUP initiative and their leadership in promoting student development.
