Mobile native Michael Knight is the author of two novels, three collections of short stories and a book of novellas. He is scheduled to speak Thursday, at 5 p.m. in the Student Center.

Best-selling author Michael Knight, a Mobile native, will read, answer questions and sign books on Thursday, Feb. 8, at the University of South Alabama.

The 5 p.m. event in the Terrace Room of the Student Center is sponsored by the Stokes Center for Creative Writing. A reception will follow. Both the reading and the reception will be free and open to the public.

Knight is the author of two novels, three collections of short stories and a book of novellas. His most recent novel, “The Typist,” was listed as a Best Book of the Year by both the Huffington Post, and the Kansas City Star, and it appeared on Oprah’s Summer Reading List.

His book “Eveningland” is a short story cycle illuminating everyday beauty and heartache of life along the shores of serene, yet history-haunted, Mobile Bay in the years preceding a devastating hurricane. It has been selected as a New York Times Editor’s Choice and as a Southern Living Southern Book of the Year.

Knight’s fiction has appeared in The New Yorker, Oxford American, Ploughshares, Saturday Evening Post and The Southern Review.

Knight lives in Knoxville where he teaches at the University of Tennessee.
