Members of the Sally Steadman Azalea Chapter of Mortar Board Honor Society at the University of South Alabama have named their Top Professors, known as “Top Prof” for the 2020-2021 academic year, during a first-time virtual event.

There were 46 faculty members selected as “Top Prof” recipients based on how they have positively influenced the lives of students at South Alabama. The faculty honorees were also selected for going above and beyond to help their students succeed. Hanna Bobinger, president of Mortar Board said “Top Prof” is a unique event that Mortar Board seniors and faculty look forward to each year.

“While “Top Prof” has traditionally been a two-hour event during which seniors honor their chosen professors during an awards dinner, this year, the Top Prof event was hosted via Zoom. The top professors were recognized in front of their colleagues, Mortar Board seniors, College deans, and the University President Dr. Tony G. Waldrop,” said Bobinger, who is a senior engineering and pre-medicine major, College of Medicine Early Acceptance Program participant and a USA Honors College student. “During a one-minute video clip, Mortar Board seniors from a myriad of disciplines had the  opportunity to reflect on their time at South, speak about a professor that has contributed to their undergraduate success, and highlight the fondest memories that each student was able to recount.”

According to Bobinger, the video is a parting gift from graduating seniors that the 2020-2021 top profs’ can cherish and look back on.”

Mortar Board is a premier national honor society recognizing college seniors for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service to the campus community.
