The University of South Alabama earns a spot in U.S. News & World Reports Best Global rankings.

The University of South Alabama has once again been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the Best Global Universities in its 2026-2027 rankings. The top 2,250 schools, representing 105 countries, were ranked.

Out of more than 4,000 U.S. colleges and universities, only 275 earned a spot in this year's U.S. News & World Report rankings.

“We are honored that the University of South Alabama has been recognized on a global stage,” said USA President Jo Bonner. “We remain committed to providing an exceptional education that provides our graduates with a first-class ticket to a brighter future.”

South was ranked in the top 12 percent for its regional research reputation.

"We take great pride in the extraordinary dedication of our faculty and staff, whose commitment to excellence is reflected in every aspect of the University of South Alabama," said Dr. Andi Kent, executive vice president and provost. "Their hard work has been instrumental in our continued rise in the U.S. News & World Report rankings and underscores the strength of our academic mission."

The U.S. News Best Global Universities ranking was based on 13 indicators that measure each university’s academic research performance and their global and regional reputations. The indicators included:

  • The percentage of highly cited papers that are among the top 1 percent most cited,
  • Global and regional research reputation, and
  • Publications for scholarly research, particularly in the social sciences and arts and humanities.
