#USAHOCO16: 'Let the Good Times Roar'

The University of South Alabama will celebrate homecoming with the theme, “Let the Good Times Roar,” with a week of fun events Oct. 24-29.

Students, faculty, staff, alumni and surrounding communities are invited to enjoy a host of events including athletic and alumni activities, a pep rally, the Fun Fest, and the “Greek Squad” Homecoming Step Show. Unless noted, most events are open to the public.

On Tuesday, Oct. 25, “Jags Got Talent” will kick off homecoming week at 5:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Center.  On Wednesday, Oct. 26, Jaguar Productions will host one of the most popular campus and community events, “Fun Fest,” to feature food, games and entertainment from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at the Student Center. South Homecoming events continue with the Joey Jones Luncheon at noon on Friday, Oct. 28 at the Football Field House. Alumni and friends are invited to attend this annual event. Tickets are $25. The alumni lawn party will follow from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. on the lawn of Alumni Hall.

After that, the annual homecoming parade featuring the Jaguar Marching Band begins on USA South Drive at 6 p.m. Kenneth O.  Simon will serve as grand marshal. He is a Birmingham attorney, chair pro tempore of the University’s Board of Trustees and the first African-American president of South’s Student Government Association. He graduated in 1976. The pep rally will follow the parade at 6:30 p.m. on the Mitchell Center North Plaza.

Following the pep rally, the Jaguar volleyball team will take on Coastal Carolina at the Jag Gym at 6:45 p.m.  At 7:30 p.m., “Greek Squad” National Pan-Hellenic Council Inc. Homecoming Step Show will begin with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. at the Yvonne Kennedy Auditorium at the Bishop State Baker Gaines Campus. Advance tickets are $12 for USA students and staff and $15 for the general public. The day of show tickets will be $20 at the door. 

Homecoming day on Saturday, Oct. 29 will feature the Jaguar football team against Georgia State with a 4 p.m. kickoff. The game will be played at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Stadium gates open at 8 a.m. The Jaguar Prowl will occur two hours and 20 minutes before game time. The presentation of the USA homecoming court will be held at halftime.
