Mortar Board national college senior honor society has presented a Gold Torch award to its chapter at the University of South Alabama. The Gold Torch is a national distinction conferred annually upon the most outstanding chapters of Mortar Board.

Recipients of the Gold Torch excel in all areas of chapter operations while promoting scholarship, leadership and meaningful service to their institutions. Mortar Board’s national president, Dr. Abigail Diehl, remarked, “We are extremely proud of our Gold Torch chapters. Their members set the bar for excellence as scholar-leaders on their campuses, and their innovative programming positively impacts their communities throughout the year.”

Chapter President Kevin Aria of Mobile accepted the award at the Mortar Board national conference in Phoenix. It was one of 37 chapters earning the honor.

The chapter, formerly the Azalea chapter, is now the Sally Steadman Azalea Chapter of Mortar Board, having renamed itself earlier this year in honor of their adviser.
