This Wednesday, Nov. 16, the Office of International Education will be hosting their Study Abroad Fair for prospective students in the Student Center Lobby from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m in celebration of International Education Week.

The O.I.E., a division of Global USA, works to facilitate engagement between South students and international programs offered by the university. Their mission is to incorporate “global perspectives into international endeavors at the University of South Alabama.”

The fair will offer students the opportunity to meet with representatives from the various programs as well as advisors to discuss financial aid options. You can also purchase some baked goods as you plan your trip to Spain, Korea, the United Kingdom – the list goes on and on.

You may be thinking, “Don’t you have to be a foreign language or literature student to be able to study abroad?” While foreign language and modern classical language and literature majors are required to study abroad, any student is able to travel abroad and receive credits through the university.

There is a multitude of opportunities for study abroad trips that students can take. This past summer, nearly 15 affiliate, and faculty-led trips ran in all different parts of the world. The fair will highlight the various faculty-led trips that will be taking place this summer.

Trips can range from a week long, all the way to an entire semester-long exchange program, depending on what is required for your degree or simply how many sites you wish to visit.

You shouldn’t let travel costs deter you from looking at studying abroad either. There are plenty of scholarships available through JagSPOT and other external sources that you can apply for. You could also win a small scholarship if you complete the scavenger hunt at the Study Abroad Fair.

If you’ve ever thought about traveling to a new country but didn’t know how to start or where to begin, the Study Abroad Fair is the perfect place to learn about all the study abroad opportunities, meet other interested students, and start planning your international experience.
