Welcome to the Gulf Coast!
The University of South Alabama is centrally located within America’s Gulf Coast, a rapidly growing region of rich history, culture, recreation and economic opportunity that is the perfect complement to life at South.
Stretching from Texas to Florida, the Gulf Coast has a variety of attractions and activities that all have a unique Southern flair and provide virtually limitless opportunities for education and recreation. Students at South enjoy the University’s proximity to the beautiful white sand beaches of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, while the cities of New Orleans and Birmingham are only a couple of hours away by car.
Within the city of Mobile, there are plenty of restaurants, attractions and outdoor activities that showcase the area’s southern hospitality and beauty. Mobile also is an economic hub, with opportunities for internships and work experiences in industries as diverse as hospitality and tourism, computer science, communications and public relations, marine science, history, engineering, healthcare, business and education.
Mobile is the birthplace of Mardi Gras in America, and for two weeks every year the Port City is full of parades, balls, moon pies, and fun! Other annual events and festivals that take place along the Gulf Coast include Hangout Music Festival at Orange Beach; the free TenSixtyFive Music Festival in downtown Mobile; the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo at Dauphin Island, and the National Shrimp Festival in Gulf Shores.
