USA CON Team-Based Trauma-Informed Child, Adolescent, and Young Adult (TBTI-CAY) ECHO®

Mission

To provide interprofessional evidence-based trauma-informed behavioral health education to healthcare providers locally, regionally, and across the nation on priority behavioral healthcare topics focusing on the child, adolescent, and young adult with the purpose of increasing primary healthcare providers’ knowledge and workforce capabilities. 

Background on Health Issue

The child, adolescent, and young adult living in rural or medically underserved areas (R/MUAs) experience higher rates of chronic illness, suicide, preventable hospitalization, and poor overall health than those not living in R/MUAs. The child, adolescent, and young adult living in rural and underserved areas have little-to-no access to psychiatric services, resulting in significantly longer travel times, increased use of emergency medical services, and sub-optimal medical care availability.

Most behavioral healthcare professionals are located in urban areas leaving little access to behavioral healthcare for residents of R/MUAs. The ECHO® model is a no-cost intervention implemented by experts at academic sites (hubs) to share their expertise across a virtual network with the interprofessional healthcare team in primary care areas who have limited access to professional collaboration thereby increasing primary healthcare providers’ knowledge/workforce capabilities in any environment. 

An ECHO®’s telementoring and case-based learning strategy enables clinicians in other healthcare sites (spokes) the ability to receive education about the latest evidence-based practices enabling treatment of complex patients in their own communities, Outcomes of the ECHO® have resulted in providing efficient, early prevention and healthcare, reducing disparities and increasing positive patient outcomes and impacting a multiplier effect not possible with traditional telehealth consults.

TBTI-CAY ECHO^® Purpose

To bring healthcare professionals together in a virtual learning environment where collaboration and connection with subject matter experts will increase the frontline capacity to provide thorough trauma-informed integrated behavioral health care to the child, adolescent, and young adult within a high-demand Gulf Coast southeastern region of the United States

Our ECHO^® programming consists of the following:

• A Zoom session (6 monthly sessions)
• A short lecture provided by a subject matter expert
• A case scenario presentation and discussion
• Questions, discussion, and engagement with other providers and experts

This ECHO® series, entitled Peer-to-Peer Support for Behavioral Health  Providers and Counselors Providing Care for the Child, Adolescent, and Young Adult, will consist of six (6) sessions. We encourage you to join in all sessions but attendance at all sessions is not mandatory. All sessions are 90 minutes, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., Central Time.

Project ECHO®:  The University of South Alabama collects registration, participation, questions/answers, chat comments, and poll responses for ECHO® programs.
