Three University of South Alabama programs receive high marks in the U.S. News & World Report's Best Online Programs for 2026. They include South's bachelor’s degree programs, as well as nursing master’s and nurse practitioner programs.

Three University of South Alabama online programs are ranked among the Best Online Programs for 2026 by U.S. News & World Report. It evaluated programs nationwide based on a variety of factors, such as student engagement, faculty credentials, and services and technologies.

South’s online family nurse practitioner program ranked 8th in the country.  Online bachelor’s programs and the online nursing master’s program also were ranked, up 50 and seven spots, respectively, from the year prior.

“We recognize that many individuals, due to family or professional responsibilities, are seeking nontraditional pathways to pursue or advance their education,” said Dr. Andi Kent, USA executive vice president and provost. “The U.S. News rankings underscore the University of South Alabama’s commitment to equipping these students with the resources and support they need to achieve their academic goals.”

2026 is the first time U.S. News has ranked nurse practitioner programs. A family nurse practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse focusing on the primary and specialty care of patients of all ages.

“Our faculty and administration are committed to the success of all our nursing programs,” said Dr. Heather Hall, dean of the College of Nursing. “In addition to these national rankings, student outcomes provide evidence of the outstanding education and training of our graduates across all specialty options.”

In its 14th year, the U.S. News Best Online Programs is designed for individuals looking to complete or further their education. This year's edition evaluates more than 1,800 online bachelor's and master's degree programs using metrics specific to online learning.

“What sets the top-ranked online programs apart is their commitment to delivering flexible coursework for professionals, parents, and service members seeking to advance their careers and broaden their knowledge,” said Dr.  LaMont Jones, managing editor for education at U.S. News. “Our rigorous evaluation focuses on student engagement and support to highlight programs truly built for the modern learner.”
