The University of South Alabama Office of Research and Economic Development has promoted Dr. Angela Jordan to assistant vice president of research communications, development, and learning.
“Angela has done an outstanding job in her current role as director for research development, and I look forward to working with her in a new expanded role,” said Dr. Allen Parrish, vice president of research and economic development. “As assistant vice president, she will provide leadership to amplify South’s research visibility and reputation, grow research capacity and competitiveness, and cultivate research excellence through structured training and professional development.”
During her time at the University of South Alabama, Jordan has worked with faculty and staff across campus to support proposal development, collaborations, internal funding, faculty development, and research communications.
“This is both a challenging and exciting time for research at the University of South Alabama,” Jordan said. “I look forward to continuing to work with our faculty to find the best ways to support their research, connect with partners, and effectively communicate the many ways our research benefits the region.”
Her work includes federal grant submissions and support of entrepreneurship initiatives, such as helping launch the National Science Foundation I-Corps program and managing the MIT-licensed Real Advice Mentoring Program. She began her career at South in 2013 as a grant writer in the School of Computing and joined the central Office of Research and Economic Development in 2016.
She is an active member of the National Organization of Research Development Professionals and current co-chair of the Mentoring Committee. In 2025 she was honored with the organization's Mentoring Award.
Jordan holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Design and Development from the University of South Alabama. Her dissertation created a training model for faculty engaged in community engaged team science. She earned her master’s degree from Indiana University and holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Northwestern University.
