The University of South Alabama has named Kristin Daniels Dukes to the position of General Counsel. Dukes has been associate university attorney for the past 12 years. She will assume her new role when Senior University Attorney Jean Tucker retires later this month.

Before coming to South, Dukes worked in several private law firms, where she handled an array of responsibilities including litigation, contracts, business law and employment law. She earned her Bachelor of Science in accounting from Birmingham-Southern College and received her law degree from Vanderbilt University.

“Kristin is an indispensable member of the University’s legal team, and we are fortunate to have her expertise and knowledge of the University in her new role,” said University President Tony Waldrop.

Dukes is a member of the Alabama Bar Association and Mobile County Bar Association, the Women's Section of the Mobile Bar Association, the Paul W. Brock Inn of Court, the National Association for College and University Attorneys, and the University of South Alabama's Women United, a subgroup of the United Way of Southwest Alabama.

As General Counsel, Dukes will oversee a legal team in the management of numerous and varied legal matters to provide advice and counsel to the University of South Alabama's board of trustees, president, administrators and departments, including USA Health, and University affiliates.
