National Board Support Schedule

The inservice center supports NBCT candidates through their NBCT professional learning journey. This academic year all educators seeking national board certification in Region 10 are welcome to attend the monthly support sessions.  The same session will be offered each month at multiple locations.  Please feel free to attend any of the sessions each month as the information shared will be the same.  However, we will need you to pre-register using the Powerschool# listed on each section.  This will help us provide the needed materials and support providers at each session.  All sessions will be listed in PowerSchool for 2 hours of professional learning credit.

Target Audience: PreK-12 educators seeking National Board certification.

Description:

Based on research, the National Board developed five core components and professional teaching standards that describe the knowledge and practices that accomplished teachers use to positively impact student learning.  The National Board certification journey for an educator is dynamic, flexible, and personal.  This course offers detailed instructions on application procedures, an overview of the process, helpful resources, grant information, and tips for preparing for the National Board certification. In addition, candidate support providers will be assigned to small groups of educators per component to assist with the certification process.

In this session, National Board certified teachers will share an overview of the National Board process, the components, the core propositions, and the standards. There will be a time for sharing helpful resources, discussing the support offered to National Board certification candidates, and general questions and answers. The goal after the session will be for educators to read the standards for his or her certification area before the September session. There will be a time for component questions and answers with an NBCT coach.

Description: (4:00 - 4:30) We will begin with a whole group presentation on the elements of component 2. Even if you are not working on component 2 this year, you may gain insight for when you submit it. (4:30 - 5:05) In the first breakout session, participants review components 2, 3, and 4 in small groups and confirm their choice for what will be submitted this year. Candidates will work in grade levels or content areas with an NBCT mentor facilitating the session and providing direction to completing the component. Checklists will be provided for components 2, 3, and 4 so candidates can make informed decisions about submitting. (5:55 - 5:50) In the second session, candidates will be working in component groups with support from an NBCT mentor. Candidates are asked to bring what they have completed for each component so guidance can be provided by the mentor.

Description: A panel discussion, led by NBCTs from the SARIC region, will provide answers to questions for preparing for Component 1. A variety of certificates will be represented to provide specific insight into the nuances of each certificate’s written test. A Google form will be sent to registered participants for submitting specific questions before the session. There will be time for Q & A at the end of the session.
