Savana Jackson (Class of 2023)

Savana Jackson

After graduating with a BA in Anthropology from the University of South Alabama, I continued to work at USA as an archaeological technician for the Center for Archaeological Studies. I spent time sorting, analyzing, and identifying artifacts from the I-10 Mobile River Bridge Archaeology Project, as well as identifying zooarchaeological remains and processing botanical samples. I also co-authored a paper on Mobilian foodways that was presented at the Southeastern Archaeological Conference (SEAC) in 2023. With the help of my wonderful supervisors and professors from South Alabama, I was accepted into the MA in Applied Anthropology program at Mississippi State University. I am now in my second year at the Department of Anthropology and Middle Eastern Cultures, where I focus on bioarchaeology underneath my advisor, Dr. Jesse Goliath.

I am grateful for my time as a lab assistant for Dr. Lesley Gregoricka’s NSF-REU program, as a teaching assistant for Dr. Phil Carr, and as Vice President of the Student Anthropological Society while I was a student at South. I will always be thankful to the USA Anthropology Department for beginning and encouraging my love for anthropology.
