Supply Chain Major Clayton Howell Claims Alabama State Title in Microsoft Excel

The Mitchell College of Business is proud to recognize Clayton Howell, a supply chain
and logistics management major, for being recognized as the Alabama State Champion
for Excel.
Clayton earned this distinction through his performance in Dr. Misty Sabol’s Data
Analytics III course. As part of the curriculum, he completed the Microsoft Office
Specialist (MOS) certification exam, securing the highest score in the state.
“Excel is like learning a language. To be good at it, you have to immerse yourself
in it,” said Howell, a 2025-26 Mitchell Ambassador. “That’s what my data analytics
classes helped me do: immerse myself in it every day, looking at different functions
and problems to deal with it.”
As the state champion, Howell was invited to represent Alabama at Certiport’s 2026
MOS U.S. National Championship in Nashville this June, an event sponsored by Microsoft.
While Howell is unable to attend due to a previously committed summer internship,
the title of Alabama State Excel Champion remains a permanent highlight of his academic
legacy.
