Dr. Melanie Boudreaux is a 2021 graduate of the Mitchell College of Business PhD program. Now an assistant professor on track for tenure, Dr. Boudreaux chose South for her PhD to advance her career.

The Mitchell College’s doctoral program is designed for business professionals and academic faculty, like Dr. Boudreaux, to pursue their education while continuing to work.

Where has your career taken you since graduation?

I currently teach Business Management and Human Resources Management at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA. Since graduating with my PhD, I have been promoted from Instructor to Assistant Professor. I go up for review next year, and because of the guidance and teachings of Dr. Hair and Dr. Howard, I am on track for tenure with my research stream.

Are there any South Alabama professors, courses or experiences that had a lasting impact on you?

Yes, two in particular. Dr. Joe Hair and Dr. Matthew Howard. Dr. Hair is an amazing person and professor. He went above and beyond to help me anytime we needed. He was always available and willing to hop on a call to explain difficult concepts and guide us. I feel so honored and blessed to have him as a professor and mentor.

In addition to guiding me in how to do research, Dr. Howard was instrumental in helping me launch my career. We collaborated on projects outside of the classroom that helped me grow my research stream. Like Dr. Hair, Dr. Howard was always there when I needed additional help.

Both of these amazing professors pushed us to do our best, and I wouldn't be in the role I am today without either of them. I am forever grateful.

If you could go back and give yourself one piece of advice as a student, what would it be?

Even as trying and exhausting as it can be to earn your PhD, enjoy it while you can because you will miss it!
