Mitchell College of Business welcomes Grayson Glaze, JD, CRE, CCIM, CPM as inaugural Distinguished Professor of Real Estate

The Mitchell College of Business is proud to announce the appointment of Grayson Glaze, JD, CRE, CCIM, CPM as the inaugural Distinguished Professor of Real Estate. This new professorship, made possible through the generous support of Abraham Mitchell, comes at a pivotal time as the Mitchell College real estate program is transitioning from a concentration into a full undergraduate major. The new degree programs will equip students with relevant, in-demand skills and will open doors to diverse career opportunities. 


The Mitchell College's focus on the real estate program is in response to the increasing demand for real estate professionals across the region and beyond. “Given his significant experience and expertise in both real estate practice and education, notes Dr. Michael Capella, Dean of the Mitchell College of Business, “Grayson is uniquely positioned to lead the program into this next phase of growth and we are excited to have him join our faculty.”


Glaze is a graduate of the University of Alabama and completed his juris doctorate at the Birmingham School of Law. He joins South after a two-decade career at the University of Alabama, where he served as the Executive Director of the Alabama Center for Real Estate. During his tenure, the Culverhouse Real Estate Program became one of the largest academic real estate programs in the country.


Throughout his academic career, Glaze has continued to be active in the real estate industry as a broker, real estate advisor and property developer. Glaze is a credentialed Counselor of Real Estate as well as a Certified Property Manager by the Institute of Real Estate Management and a Certified Commercial Investment Member by the CCIM Institute. 


The Distinguished Professor of Real Estate will build on the strong foundation established by Dr. Reid Cummings. Dr. Capella shares, “Under Dr. Cummings’ leadership, the real estate program gained recognition for its industry engagement, applied research and commitment to student success, so we remain grateful for his many years of service to the Mitchell College of Business."


As the program enters this new era, Glaze will continue to expand the real estate program by strengthening the curriculum, developing industry partnerships, fostering experiential learning opportunities and preparing students for diverse careers in real estate.
