In October, Mitchell College of Business Jaguar Investment Fund (JIF) students attended the Student Managed Investment Fund Consortium (SMIFC) Conference hosted by Indiana State University at the Hyatt-McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois.

This major national gathering brought together student managed investment groups from more than 20 universities across the country. The conference served as a vital platform for peer networking and collaboration on best practices for successful fund management.

Students also participated in intensive educational sessions led by top industry professionals, covering high-impact topics such as:

  • Advancing Financial Careers: Practical strategies for post-graduation professional growth.
  • Market Impact Analysis: Real-time updates on how current economic conditions and major global events directly influence market trends and, specifically, the performance of the JIF's holdings.

To further their learning, the students also had exclusive opportunities to tour the Chicago Board Options Exchange and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.

The JIF program is now celebrating its tenth year of providing Mitchell College students with hands-on experience in managing a real investment portfolio. Managing the Jaguar Investment Fund and the USA Fund, the program oversees a total of more than $2.5 million. These two portfolios consistently demonstrate excellence, regularly performing at or above the S&P 500 return rate.

This experiential learning is made possible by the program's unique funding structure: Jaguar Investment Fund and the USA Fund, which includes a portion of the University’s endowment, provide the JIF program with a management fee. This fee directly supports student participation in high-impact experiences like the Student Managed Investment Fund Consortium.
