After noticing a need for an organized club, business major Neel Patel, founded the Jaguar Cricket Club. The club is comprised of mostly University of South Alabama students and alumni.
The team recently attended the American College Cricket National Championships in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Approximately 28 colleges across the United States gathered to compete in the championship. The Jaguars played six games in three days, beating out traditional heavyweights such as Drexel, Yale and Harvard in the league rounds. They continued on to defeat Texas A&M, and the 2017 defending champions, Ryerson Rams of Ryerson University. After falling in the title game to Rutgers, the team took second place in the National Championship.
USA alumnus Muhammad Amjad was named the most valuable player, team captain and JCC founder Neel Patel was recognized as the best batsman, and Sujal Patel topped the best player ranking.
Hussain Ahmed said, “We would like to thank numerous people. Firstly, we would like to thank our faculty advisor Dr. Dhananjay Tambe and Club President, Zohaib Ijaz for the continuous administrative and moral support. There were numerous organizations that came through to help us out with the event, including the SGA, MSA, Global USA and the Student Recreational Center.”
