The Mitchell College of Business is proud to announce recognition of excellence for three student organizations, Beta Gamma Sigma, the Financial Management Association, and the Society for Human Resource Management. We congratulate the faculty advisors and students of these organizations.
The Mitchell College of Business Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) chapter was designated a “Highest Honors” chapter for the 2017-2018 academic year. This designation is reserved for the top 10% of chapters. An international honor society, BGS chapters are chartered only at AACSB International accredited institutions. The mission of BGS is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business and to cultivate leadership and professional development. Membership in the organization is limited to students displaying leadership and academic excellence.
The College Financial Management Association (FMA) chapter has earned the FMA Superior Chapter Award for the 2017-2018 academic year from the FMA International. This highly coveted designation is awarded to less than 10% of FMA chapters. In order to receive this prestigious designation, chapters have to meet a number of specific criteria, demonstrate exemplary chapter management, and excel in providing members with program activities. Achieving this honor requires a high level of effort and commitment from students and faculty.
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) awarded a 2017-2018 Superior Merit Award designation to the University of South Alabama SHRM Student Chapter for providing superior growth and development opportunities to its student chapter members. This program, which began in 1972, was created to encourage student chapters to require ongoing excellence in the following areas: student chapter requirements, chapter operations, chapter programming and professional development of members, support of the human resource profession, and SHRM engagement. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world’s largest HR professional society, representing 285,000 members in more than 165 countries. For nearly seven decades, the Society has been the leading provider of resources serving the needs of HR professionals and advancing the practice of human resource management.
