Student Spotlight: Devin Epps
Posted on May 1, 2018 by MCOB Outreach
What’s up USA! Devin Epps here, and I am pleased to share a bit of myself with you all today. I am a senior marketing major here at the university with a concentration in International Business.
Some of you here may know me as The Shirtless Chef. Although the name is unique on its own, I am a businessman at heart and my approach to doing business is equally as distinctive.
I was born in Memphis, TN and moved to Murfreesboro, a suburb of Nashville, at a very young age. I chose South for a multitude of opportunities. First, the Mitchell College of Business. I felt as though the curriculum and the city of Mobile would challenge me to develop personally as well as professionally. Next, the USA men’s basketball team gave me the opportunity to continue the sport I love right out of high school. Lastly, during my visits here I felt at home, which was of the utmost importance for me and my family when deciding to move out-of-state for my education.
I take pride in the many hats I’ve worn while here at the university. I currently serve as a Mitchell College of Business Ambassador, the Treasurer of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., and am the former president of the Professional Sales & Marketing Club.
Just this year my culinary and personal resume is vast in media coverage as I have appeared on Gulf Coast Today for their Mardi Gras special, featured in Jaguar magazine for balancing D-1 athletics alongside my entrepreneurial ventures, appeared on a panel of 5 local business owners for the American Marketing Association, have given a keynote in Destin, Florida for the S.O.B.I.E conference, and have even been contacted by The Rachel Ray Show to hopefully work out details on appearing on the New York based program later this year.
Being at South for these 4 years has provided me with opportunities I could only dream of! I’ve been able to travel to every corner of the country, and have even made my way to Spain and Serbia during my time here. I plan to forever use the foundation that my newfound family has provided me with in my career.
As of now, that future is a bit unknown. I currently am awaiting interviews in Dallas, Texas, Manhattan, NY, and also have the option of continuing to build my personal brand in my hometown. I’ll certainly take my time with this decision and forever be thankful for whatever opportunity myself and God decide is the best fit. Thank you all for taking the time to learn a bit more about me, and I look forward to seeing you all at the top!
Much love,
DE
