The 2025 Global Jaguar Scholarship recipients are Branah Jones, a political science and criminal justice major in the College of Arts and Sciences; Jazeil Moye, a professional health sciences major in the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions; and Alexis Acosta, a biomedical sciences major in the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions.

The University of South Alabama International Education Ambassadors have created the Global Jaguar Scholarship to pay for student passports.

The 2025 scholarship recipients are Alexis Acosta, a biomedical sciences major in the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions; Jazeil Moye, a professional health sciences major in the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions; and Branah Jones, a political science and criminal justice major in the College of Arts and Sciences

“Many students perceive obtaining a passport as a barrier to study abroad,” said Jan-Dominique Santos, assistant director of International Education and Study Abroad. “The fund eliminates this barrier and aims to encourage students to explore new cultures and expand their knowledge.”

The International Education Ambassadors, who are study abroad alumni, created the scholarship to help current and future students purchase their passports and encourage more students to study abroad. The application fee for first-time passport holders is $165.

Acosta will study geography in Germany with Dr. Steven Schultze,  associate professor of geography in the College of Arts and Sciences; Jones will study communication and promotion in Greece with Katherine Koury and Megan Sparks, senior communication instructors in the College of Arts and Sciences; and Moye will study pre-health in Spain with Carson Wood, coordinator for Academic Advising and Transfer Services and an adjunct instructor in the College of Education and Professional Studies.
