Getting Started with Research at South

Aim to complete the action items that apply to you and/or your research in your first two weeks of work. Doing so will ensure you have a smooth start and obtain all of the information and resources you need to be successful.

▼   Attend Research Services Orientation

Join us anytime on Tuesday, September 22 from 10:30am - 1pm at the Faculty Club.

This annual event is hosted by the Office of Research and Economic Development, and is designed to familiarize attendees with available research services, and provide a platform to learn more about the policies and processes involved in conducting research at USA. Intended for both new and current faculty, this resource fair will help you navigate the research landscape, from securing funding, to managing your projects, to ensuring compliance.

▼   Access Key Research Management Systems

Cayuse: This is the university's electronic research administration system for tracking submissions and managing awards, including administrative approvals. If you have never used Cayuse previously at the University of South Alabama, you will need to request account creation; please allow at least one full business day for your request to be processed.

What else needs to go here? UNC has ORCiD and SciENcv.

▼   Transfer an Award

Placeholder text? I'm sure we have other types of award transfers that occur if commercialization is not involved?

A Data Use Agreement or Material Transfer Agreement must be established to transfer data or materials to South from a previous institution.

Visit the Office of Commercialization and Industry Collaboration (OCIC) webpage for instructions on this process, or direct questions to techtransfer@southalabama.edu.

▼   Survey Platforms

Qualtrics: Survey and analytics platform; SSO login for current faculty, staff, and students. Have surveys or data you need to transfer from another institution? Contact the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.

REDCap: HIPAA-compliant survey platform; primarily for faculty and staff use, but students working with a faculty member can apply for access.

▼   Contract and Grant Accounting

Placeholder text - would people need to contact OGCA as part of their startup process?

▼   Find Funding
