School of Computing Faculty and Students Present Research at International Cybersecurity Conference
Posted on July 10, 2026 by Keith Lynn

Faculty and students from the University of South Alabama's School of Computing recently showcased their research at the 25th European Conference on Cyber Warfare and Security (ECCWS), an international conference that brings together researchers and cybersecurity professionals from around the world. The conference supported both in-person and virtual presentations.
The School of Computing was represented through three research papers addressing challenges in cybersecurity, industrial systems, and artificial intelligence.
The presentations included:
- "Preparing Industry for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT): Seperate Sensor Networks for Industrial Security" by Ricky Green, Ryan Benton, and Michael Black. The research explores a hybrid sensor data acquisition approach that enables useful data acquisition without impacting the security, speed, accuracy, and availability of industrial control.
- "Graph Neural Networks on Phase Space Graphs for Cybersecurity" by Parker Cole, Ryan Benton, Ralf Riedel, David Bourrie, Becca Clark, and Jeffrey McDonald. The paper examines the combination of graph neural networks and a nonlinear phase space transformation of time-series data in order to address problems such as malware detection and intrusion detection.
- "Supervised Classification of Cloud Workload Behavior Using Out-of-Band Performance Metrics" by Maureen Van Devender, Thanh Le, Ryan Benton, Angela Buie, Ralph Mouawad, and Zoe Steele. The research focuses on monitoring and classifying cloud workload behavior to improve system performance and security.
The presentations highlight the School of Computing's commitment to advancing cybersecurity research and providing students with opportunities to collaborate on innovative projects with faculty. By contributing to an international conference such as ECCWS, South researchers continue to expand the impact of the University's work in computing and cyber defense while engaging with the global research community.
