What are the Marx Mentors?
Marx Mentors are faculty from across South who are here to help you navigate your second year and beyond. Stop by Marx Library to connect with a mentor, ask questions, talk through your next step or simply have a conversation. No appointment needed, and your mentor doesn’t have to be in your major—just find a time that works for you and stop by!
Dr. Molly Miller
As a Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences and FYE instructor, as well as the Green Jags advisor, Molly Miller is well-connected to campus life. Her mentorship focus is on bridging the gap between first and second year coursework and real-world career pathways, and navigating tough transitions, such as switching majors. She emphasizes academic planning, time management, and building a genuine sense of belonging on campus. Last year, one of her mentees won the Jaguar Senior Medallion Society Award!

She will be at Marx Library’s Learning Commons every third Mondays at 1:00 p.m. and every third Thursdays at 11:00 a.m. every month.
G. Tashbin
As the only mentor from the Mitchell College of Business in this program, G. Tashbin provides specialized guidance tailored directly to your academic and professional paths. Mr. Tashbin is a Senior Instructor of Marketing, mentoring business majors and beyond. He is deeply committed to helping you overcome the "sophomore slump" and build a lasting, meaningful connection to the university community.

He will be at Marx Library’s Center for Academic Excellence (second floor) the second and last Mondays of each month at 2:00 p.m.
Dr. Cinthya Torres
Dr. Cinthya Torres is an Assistant Professor in Modern and Classical Languages and the recipient of the SGA Faculty Award, recognized by students for approachable, high-impact mentorship. Her work across campus, from the Honors College and student organizations to interdisciplinary initiatives, has given her a rich understanding of the resources, connections, and guidance you need to thrive. Dr. Torres prioritizes building open, meaningful relationships for students to feel supported, valued, and empowered.

Dr. David Forbes
David Forbes is passionate about mentoring students through experiences that help them grow from learners into confident leaders and collaborators. By identifying meaningful experiences that align with each student’s interests and potential, he strives to prepare them for academic and professional success. For students interested in 'more', this often includes encouraging and supporting their applications for nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships. Whether guiding students toward research experiences, academic pathways, or long-term career goals, he is a firm believer that timely mentorship and high expectations can open doors that might otherwise be missed.

Chris Cowley
Chris Cowley is a Mobile native and USA alum (B.A. '05) who understands the unique strengths and needs of regional students coming to South. He is a Senior Instructor exclusively teaching FYE and 100/200-level English and Literature courses and has served as an SYE Faculty Fellow for 4 years. Mr. Cowley specializes in guiding students through the transitions, choices, and momentum of their early college years.

Dr. Christina Baughn
Certified Nurse Educator with 12 years of teaching experience at USA, Christina Baughn is skilled at guiding students as they shift from general education requirements into high-rigor, upper-level coursework. She is focused on helping you overcome self-doubt, establish clear academic strategies, and manage coursework pressure effectively.
Overall, Ms. Baughn is dedicated to creating an accessible, encouraging environment where you feel connected, valued, and prepared for your future career.

Leigh Delaney Tucker (LDT)
As a Senior Instructor of Biology and First-Year Experience (FYE) teacher, Leigh
Delaney-Tucker spent years guiding students across all disciplines through college
transitions. LDT is dedicated to helping scholars excel in the essential skills of
time management, organizational strategies, and professional development to keep stress
low and momentum high.
