What is Academic Advising?
Academic advising is the process where you obtain the critical information you need
to make thoughtful decisions about your college career, such as deciding upon your
major or solving any roadblocks you may encounter along the way. An academic advisor’s
purpose is to encourage students to develop as self-directed learners and decision
makers. Good academic advising also supports the mission of the University of South
Alabama through encouraging student academic success and persistence towards graduation.
Advising Appointments:
Advising appointments for current and prospective students can be conducted in person or virtually. You may schedule your advising appointment online via Navigate South which can be found on the student log in page or call AATS at (251) 341-4017. Have a quick question or need immediate assistance? You can also Chat us up!! using the chat button on this page or complete the Ask the Advisor form. For students assigned an AATS advisor, advising is mandatory at least once each term. We encourage you to meet with your advising as often as you need.
Information for New Student Orientation, Advising and Registration:
All NEW incoming students are required to register for new student orientation. Once you have registered for new student orientation, an academic advisor will reach out to you through your JagMail to schedule an appointment.
