New Employee Benefits FAQs

▼   When will my benefits become effective as a new employee?

Most employee benefits, including your health coverage, become effective on the first day of the month following your hire date, provided you complete your enrollment timely.

If you were hired on the first day of the month your benefits will be effective on the same day.

▼   How can I sign up for benefits?
Please visit Employee Benefits Enrollment for detailed information on how to prepare and complete your enrollment.
▼   What documentation is required for dependent coverage?
If your last name is different from your spouse's and/or dependent's last name, please provide a copy of the marriage license and birth certificate(s). You can bring these documents with you the day you are scheduled for orientation.
▼   How long do I have to enroll in benefits?
New employees have 30 days from their date of hire to enroll in benefits. If you don't enroll during that initial enrollment period, you'll need to wait until the next open enrollment period, unless you experience a qualifying life event (such as marriage, birth of a child, or loss of other coverage).
▼   Where do I find detailed information related to all the employee benefits available?

Please visit the Benefits and Wellness home page for detailed information related to each available benefit. Employees must be in a regular benefits-eligible position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater).
