Submitting a Master's Thesis from a Prior Institution to Demonstrate Research Readiness

Students who have completed a Master’s Thesis during the completion of a Master’s Degree at another institution can submit their thesis for review and consideration to satisfy the Demonstration of Research Readiness requirement. Master's Thesis projects completed elsewhere must conform to the Criteria for Research Projects Satisfying CCP Program Milestones. Additionally, a Master's Thesis completed elsewhere must have been completed within the past five years to be considered in Demonstration of Research Readiness. Master's Thesis projects completed more than five years prior are not accepted and the student will be required to complete a First Year Project. 

Students who wish to have a prior Master’s Thesis reviewed must complete the following: 

  1. Submit their written document, including a signature page indicating the names and signatures of all committee members and the date of completion using this submission form. Students must submit this request and relevant materials no later than the end of the sixth week of classes during your first semester of enrollment in the CCP Program. Failure to submit these materials may result in the student being required to complete a First Year Project. 
  2. Master’s Thesis projects completed at another institution will be reviewed by the Comprehensive Examinations Committee and evaluated using the Demonstration of Research Readiness Review Form. Students will be notified whether their Master's Thesis completed elsewhere has been approved in satisfaction of the Research Readiness Requirement by the end of the first semester of enrollment in the CCP Program.
  3. Students who submit a Master’s thesis completed at another institution to satisfy this requirement must also complete an oral presentation of the Thesis project at USA. This oral presentation will be delivered during the CCP Brown Bad series to the CCP Faculty and Students. The date of the presentations will be scheduled prior to the beginning of the semester and multiple Demonstration of Research Readiness project presentations will be grouped together during the same Brown Bag meeting. This presentation will conform to the standards of a research paper presentation at a professional conference. The  presentation should last approximately 15 minutes, leaving five minutes for questions and discussion. Though there is no formal review of the oral presentation, the presentation is required to have completed the Demonstration of Research Readiness to move on to the dissertation.
