March Mammal Madness

C3PO Lab and MMM

March Mammal Madness is in full swing and our lab is excited to watch the competition unfold with you! Can you guess the winning animal for each virtual battle - all the way to the Championship round?!

MMM is a free public event every year. To participate please send your name (first and last) and email address to ccclab@southalabama.edu.

What is MMM? How do I play?

Think of the NCAA College Basketball March Madness Championship Tournament, but with animals! March Mammal Madness is an annual tournament of *simulated* combat competition among animals. Scientific research is used to substantiate likely outcomes as a probabilistic function of the two species' attributes within the battle environment. The MMM team consider the animal's temperament, weaponry, armor, body mass, running speed, fight style, physiology, and motivation to calculate battle outcomes. But don't think a humble butterfly can't win in a fight, there are plenty of "upsets" to keep you on your toes!

For more information on MMM and how to fill out your bracket, check out the MMM homepage or the video explanation below by its very founder Dr. Katie Hinde.
