USA Department of Emergency Medicine

Chair's Message

The Department of Emergency Medicine, as part of the USA academic health system, is dedicated to excellence in clinical care, medical education, scientific discovery, and service. Our program includes emergency departments at each of the two hospitals in the health system (USA Health University Hospital and USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital) that see a combined volume of approximately 80,000 visits. USA Health is the only academic medical system in the region and has the only tertiary referral hospitals. They provide several unique regional medical resources including Level I trauma care, regional burn care, regional Level III neonatal care, and others. The Emergency Department at Children’s & Women’s Hospital is the only pediatric ED for the entire region.

The Department of Emergency Medicine has undergone substantial academic growth since 2015, with the addition of several new faculty and the development of new programs. These include a new Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and a clinical research program. We have expanded our educational activities. The opening of our new 27,000-square-foot Level 1 trauma center allows us to care for a broader range of patients in our region and beyond.

This website includes links to detailed information regarding our programs, faculty and the institution. Specifically, the link to our residency program will provide the latest information regarding our accreditation and the application process.

Thank you for your interest in the USA Department of Emergency Medicine.
