For Parents

South Alabama Entrance Sign

Welcome Jag family! We are so excited that your student has chosen to attend South. Your incoming freshman student will have the opportunity to register for one scheduled orientation sessions before their first semester at South begins. Additionally, we will host a Southbound Orientation Open House during the Fall 2022 Week of Welcome that will be tailored to the needs of new students.

Last summer, we held virtual orientation sessions for parents to learn more about South and ask our panelist questions. During these sessions, we covered topics such as student life on campus, safety and health, academic success, career services, student financial services, housing, and more.  These sessions were so successful that we wanted to make the recordings available to the parents of our incoming spring students as well. Please see below.

A recording of the June session, featuring Student Affairs, Student Health, Title IX, Counseling & Testing Services, and Student Financial Services, can be accessed here.

A recording of the July session, featuring USA Housing, Dining, Bookstore, and Alumni, can be accessed here.

A recording of the August session,  featuring Academic Affairs, Academic Success/Advising, Career Services, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion can be accessed here.

This summer, parents of freshmen that are enrolling in Fall 2022 classes will have the opportunity to attend orientation with other parents, while students attend orientation with other students. The Parent Orientation program is only for in-person sessions and will run concurrently with the student sessions. Parent Orientation is not required, but encouraged. The orientation fee for parents is $40 per guest and parents must be registered for orientation on their student's orientation registration form.

If you are looking for more information, please feel free to browse our Spring 2022 Parent Handbook. It contains checklists, contact information for various departments and general information about sending your student to college.  An updated handbook for Summer and Fall 2022 parents will be available soon.
