In order to further assist your career development, the University of South Alabama offers programs, workshops and services through the Innovation in Learning Center (ILC). All new faculty are expected to complete the Canvas Fundamentals training and are encouraged to take advantage of opportunities such as the New Faculty Scholars program.
The selected teaching resources offer a good starting point for your courses. We invite you to explore these resources and participate in the upcoming instructional workshops.
- New Faculty Orientation — A half day introduction to campus leaders and significant resources required of all new faculty.
- New Faculty Scholars Program — A year long cohort program supporting faculty success.
- Mid-Semester Feedback Program (SGIF) — A mid-semester feedback program to capture the student voice.

The Office of Research and Economic Development shares internal and external funding opportunities, in addition to advising on grant opportunities.
- Internal Funding — South Alabama offers numerous internal funding opportunities.
- Grant Writing — The Office of Research and Communication provides guidelines on the typical components of grant application.
- Research Development — Research Development is a central office providing pre-award research development support for all faculty, including funding searches, proposal development, and internal funding.
The ILC offers various and ongoing faculty and course development opportunities, ranging from our instructional workshops and virtual drop-in hours to year-long programs such as New Faculty Scholars or our MéPLE Mentoring.
- MéPLE Mentoring — Sponsored by the ILC and the Faculty Senate Mentoring Committee, this mentoring program offers an inclusive, supportive network for faculty of various disciplines, ranks, and experience.
- Conferences — The ILC hosts the annual South Alabama Conference on Teaching and Learning to reach a diverse audience of educators and scholars who convene to share and engage with innovative instructional practices.
