Stokes School of Marine & Environmental Sciences Naming and Scholarship Investment Opportunities

The University of South Alabama has invested approximately $2.5 million in renovating new research and teaching space on campus for the Stokes School of Marine & Environmental Science.

Additional investments from individuals, corporations and foundations in new faculty and equipment for the analytical facilities are needed. Recruitment of students can be facilitated through creating new undergraduate scholarships and graduate assistantships.

▼   Endowed Chair
An endowed chair is among the most prestigious and meaningful gifts that can be made to an academic institution. Funds provided by an endowed chair are used to attract and retain nationally or internationally recognized scholars or researchers. An endowed chair may provide full salary or a salary supplement and fringe benefits for the recipient of the chair, for support staff, or other expenses related to the position.
▼   Endowed Visiting Professorship and/or Scholar
This fund is used to attract prominent scientists to join the faculty in the School for a semester or academic year. The program enhances the reputation of the School and provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn new techniques and familiarize themselves with theories and lines of thought. Faculty nominate leading scientists outside the University to be in residence to solve critical problems.
▼   Named Student Endowed Fellowship
A fellowship is awarded to an outstanding student who is working toward an advanced degree in a graduate program.
▼   Named Graduate Assistantship
A graduate assistantship endowment is awarded to a student who is working on an advanced degree in a graduate program.
▼   Named Endowed Graduate Scholarship

A graduate scholarship may be awarded by the University to a current or upcoming graduate student for the following year on the basis of need, academic merit, or additional criteria set forth and approved by the donor and University.

▼   Named Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship

An undergraduate scholarship may be awarded by the University to a current undergraduate student or incoming freshman to the program on the basis of need, academic merit, or additional criteria set forth and approved by the donor and University.

▼   Mitchell-Moulton Scholarship Initiative

Every gift made in support of endowed undergraduate scholarships (up to $25 million) will be matched dollar-for-dollar through this initiative.
