Dr. Delaware Arif, associate professor of digital journalism in the Department of Communication in the College of Arts and Sciences, has been elected as the chair of the International Communication Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, the largest organization for academicians and research in this field in the world. data-lightbox='featured'
Dr. Delaware Arif, associate professor of digital journalism in the Department of Communication in the College of Arts and Sciences, has been elected as the chair of the International Communication Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, the largest organization for academicians and research in this field in the world.

University of South Alabama Faculty Senate President Delaware Arif, associate professor of digital journalism in the Department of Communication in the College of Arts and Sciences, has been elected as the chair of the International Communication Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, the largest organization for academicians and research in this field in the world.

“I am humbly honored to have been selected as the next chair to head this international organization,” Arif said. “This is an exciting time to represent the University of South Alabama and be able to influence the future of our field of study. The ICD aims to promote research, teaching, and public service activities in international communication.” 

Arif’s teaching and research interests include social media, new media, political communication, international communication, journalism studies, race and media, and mass media ethics. Arif also serves as Faculty Senate president.

“At this critical moment in higher education,” Arif said, “collaboration and open communication between the administration and the faculty will ensure that we thrive as an institution despite any obstacles.”

Arif earned his Ph.D. in mass communication and media arts at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, focusing on the patterns of usage of social media among the South Asian diaspora group. He earned his master’s degree in media theory and research from SIUC and his bachelor’s degree in art and a master’s degree in mass communication and journalism from the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh.
