JagMedia
Jag Media is the student media group of the University of South Alabama under the
direction of the Department of Communication. Jag Media includes The Vanguard newspaper,
Due South magazine, JagTV and WJGR 97.1 The Prowl. All media is student-operated and

Internships
The Department of Communication internship program provides undergraduate students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a professional setting. Students fill positions in areas such as broadcast journalism, multimedia journalism, advertising, public relations, radio, video productions, fundraising, social media, web services and athletic events.

Advising
Academic advisors assist students in reaching their educational and career goals. The process helps students approach their education in an organized and meaningful way. If you are a new freshman, you will be advised in the Student Advising Center. All other students will be assigned a member of the communication department faculty. Degree Requirements
The Bachelor and Master of Arts in Communication degree programs prepare students
for jobs in many professional settings. Students in the bachelor’s degree program
choose one of the four concentrations: communication studies, digital cinema and television,
journalism (multimedia and broadcast) and strategic communication. The master’s degree
program provides students the latest industry skills in strategic communication, digital
media and communication leadership.

Student Organizations
Communication students have access to four organizations, including the American Advertising Federation, Public Relations Student Society of America, Lambda Pi Eta, and Alpha Epsilon Rho. Learn more about the student organizations.

Student Spotlight
The Department of Communication desires to acknowledge the accomplishments of its students. Four students, chosen by professors, will be featured throughout the semester from each concentration: Communication Studies, Broadcast Journalism, Digital Cinema and Television, Multimedia Journalism and Strategic Communication.
